Once upon a time

A project based on two memory boxes which have been built up over 18 years. I collect souvenirs that are then gathered into my memory boxes, these item take me back to the place just like a photographs do. Because I can’t smell each individual item takes me straight back there visually just like your sense of smell does. My mum started these boxes with the family photographs and baby scans. Once I knew I couldn’t smell it became normal to collect things over the years and hopefully these boxes can be passed down like an inheritance. These days I can be to picky with what I put in my boxes, is it worth keeping ? Are my future children really going to want my ‘adventure wrist ticket’ ? Does the item look appealing ?..

Down below are the experiments done throughout the process

Here I have used sparkled thread which has green and pink reflects, embroidered into the print. I find it therapeutic using the motion of stitching in and out. Adding something extra to the subject does not always pay off, leading it to appear messy. Blind and visually impaired people rely on textures to navigate around the world as touch is their eyes.
